This farm has been in my family for generations. Every year when our vegetables are ready to harvest our family likes to enjoy the first taste of our labor. (prior to selling to the public, quality assurance!) My dad and I walk every field picking out the vegetables we want to eat with the farm family that evening. We invite guests to take this walk and harvest their own.
During our leisurely stroll, we take the time to enjoy our surroundings and connection to the earth and remark on the bountiful harvest before us. When we reach the cookhouse situated by our cabin that overlooks a pond. We clean and prepare the vegetables together still chatting up a storm. While we are doing this the farm family begins to arrive in anticipation of the wonderful meal we are about to share. They pitch in helping feed the fire for the pots, setting the table, and in the conversation. Guests who book a tour will be guided, if needed, on how to clean and prep the vegetables harvested.
We cook outside over a fire while we stand (or sit) around it and take in the wonderful smells the cooking is creating. We enjoy the conversation and company, surrounded by what we love to do and the life we chose to live. This culinary tour is sharing this tradition with others, we invite guests to walk along with us and harvest their own for the pot at awaits over an open fire.
